Today, our research team had the honor of presenting at the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE) 2024 Best Practices Conference in Monterey, CA! AHSIE seeks to provide activities that directly benefit practitioners and educators at HSIs.


We had the honor of speaking to a standing room only audience about our participatory action, mixed methods research project that examines servingness at Sacramento State, a Hispanic Serving Institution.

Our presentation, entitled "Using Student Voices to Transform Hispanic Serving Institutions" reported on our participatory action research process, findings, and how our project has informed institutional change at Sac State. We had three learning outcomes for the session:

  1. Identify how policy is used as a tool that expresses institutional culture,

  2. Identify promising practices and programs that can transform HSIs, and

  3. Examine the role of student voice in transforming policy in support of servingness.
