We are excited to invite you to join us for “Finding Comunidad: Uplifting Our Voices to Unpack “Servingness” at Sacramento State” on Tuesday, May 9th at the Terrace Suite and Shoreline Room, 2nd floor, at the University WELL.
This event features a:
Photo exhibit from 9:30am-3:30pm and 4:30pm-5:30pm, and a
Interactive presentation and reception from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
This event will unpack findings from a 2-year research project exploring Latine/x student experiences of attending a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), their perceptions of “servingness” in HSI, and how it can be improved. See more details below!
Photo Exhibit
We hope that you can drop by our exhibit which will feature photos and narratives from 16 Latine/x students regarding their perceptions of what it means to attend a Hispanic Serving Institution & how the institution can better support their success. The exhibit will be available to move through between 9:30am – 3:30pm and 4:30pm – 5:30pm in the Terrace Suite and Shoreline Room, 2nd floor, at the University WELL. Student co-researchers will be present to share their findings and contextualize the photos.
Interactive Presentation
You are also invited to attend an interactive presentation from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in the Terrace Suite at the University WELL (2nd floor) where we will engage attendees in conversation about what it means for Sac State to “serve” Latine/x students.
During this presentation student researchers will highlight key findings from a year and a half long participatory action research project. The presentation will include reflections from higher education scholars Dra. Marcela Cuellar & Dra. Gina Garcia. Throughout the presentation attendees will have opportunities to engage in conversation about how the campus can better support Latine/x students. A reception with light refreshments will follow the presentation.
